Richard Emil ‘Dick’ Uyhelyi, 78, was born to Emil and Stella Uyhelyi in Cleveland, Ohio, Aug. 6, 1938. He had a very happy childhood, growing up with a close extended family who adored him. He died Monday, April 17, 2017, at the Hospice House in Williamsburg, Va.

As a young man, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy and fought what he called “The Battle of the Riviera.” He was in Rome for two Easter Sundays, and in Cannes for the film festival. His experience in the Navy provided him with many unique and delightful memories.

After his time in the Navy, Dick returned home to Cleveland, married and started a family. While working full time and raising his family, Dick worked steadfastly in the evenings to earn his college degree in business management. He worked in several capacities in the battery business, and finally realized his dream by opening his own company, Battery Outlet in Tabb, Va., with his business partner, Marko Charalambous.

In 1992, Dick met and married Barbara Pyle. After devoting many years of his life to Battery Outlet, Dick retired in 2015. He and Barbara loved retirement and the many friends they made in Williamsburg.

Dick leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of almost 25 years, Barbara Baird Uyhelyi; children, Christine Uyhelyi, and her husband, Gregg Burrage, Cynthia Uyhelyi, and her fiance, Thomas Halberda, Richard Emil Uyhelyi II, and his significant other, Tina Ogles, and Elyse Pyle Bavuso, and her husband, Anthony Bavuso. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Mitchell Trainham, Brent Girard and Connor Bavuso; and one great-grandchild, Benjamin Karol.

Dick was an avid golfer and an excellent photographer. His warm, kind heart and his love for his family and friends will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
