Christine Carla ‘Chris’ Swords, 66, of Williamsburg was called home to our Lord Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Born in Detroit to Charles and Marjorie Campbell Anderson, Chris was a beloved wife and mother.
Eclectic in all aspects of life, she was at times a singer, graphic artist, typesetter, beautician, Air Force reservist and secretary. At her passing, Chris was a long-time DoD contractor, serving as an I.T. systems administrator. She and her surviving husband, Jim Swords of Williamsburg, met at work at Fort Monroe 20 years ago.
Chris is also survived by her first husband, Barry Smith of Delaware; five children, Shannon Stevens of Chicago, Melanie Lyng of Savannah, Derek Smith of Washington, D.C., April Quinn-Paquet of Framingham, Mass., and Cory Smith of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Ashley, Patrick and Alison Lyng of Savannah and Richard Kingdon of Chicago; and great-granddaughter, Victoria Kingdon of Chicago.
A requiem Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at St. Matthews Anglican Catholic Church, 215 Main St., Newport News, followed by a private service in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Chris was a woman of strong faith all her earthly days. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Mark’s Anglican Catholic Church in Williamsburg.
