UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: An 84-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle Monday morning, police said.

Ruth DuLaney, of Mechanicsville, was struck by a car on John Tyler Memorial Highway near Chickahominy Riverfront Park around 11:30 a.m., according to a James City County news release.

Police say DuLaney was hit when she pulled out in front of a car, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges are pending at this time.

An 84-year-old woman was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle on John Tyler Highway Monday, police said.

Police and medics responded to a crash on John Tyler Highway near Chickahominy Riverfront Park around 11:30 a.m., according to James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

A woman was riding her bike when a vehicle hit her, Williams said.

Medics transported the woman to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond. She has life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both traffic lanes were closed for about two hours, but all lanes reopened by 1:50 p.m., Williams said.
