Update 5:00 p.m. Ryan Lyon has turned himself in to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office, according to the Lt. Dennis Ivey, Jr., spokesman for the YPSO.
Update 10:45 a.m.: The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has obtained and filed a second degree murder warrant for Ryan Atwan Lyon, according to a YPSO Facebook post.
Original Story: Police are on the lookout for a man wanted for fatally shooting a Williamsburg man Thursday on Walnut Drive in Yorktown during a physical altercation, police say.
Ryan Atwan Lyon, 32 of Yorktown, allegedly shot Carlos Lamont Lassiter, 40, of Williamsburg, in the chest and he was transported to an area hospital. Lassiter underwent surgery and later died from his injuries.
Lyon, who was still at large Friday morning, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, and use of firearm, but that charge is expected to be upgraded to murder, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office press release.
The incident occurred Thursday shortly after 7 p.m., when deputies and investigators responded to a shooting in the 100 Block of Walnut Drive in Yorktown. The victim and another male acquaintance were involved in a physical altercation when one of the males involved pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the chest.
The victim suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He died of his injuries 4 a.m. Friday, police say.
Laphonso Cordero Lyon, 29, of Yorktown was also charged for being involved with the crime. He was charged with accessory after the fact to aggravated malicious wounding as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was arrested without incident in the 100 block of Walnut
Drive in Yorktown, police said.
