A small kitchen fire broke out Wednesday afternoon while a Forest Glen homeowner was at an appointment, according to fire officials.
James City County emergency crews responded to the fire just before 2 p.m. after a neighbor reported smoke coming from the eaves of the home, according to a James City County news release.
As units were responding to the home, located in the 100 block of DeLafayette Street, the neighbor reported no one was coming out of the house, the release said.
Firefighters entered the home immediately when they arrived, but did not find anyone inside. They then “quickly extinguished” the fire, which was in the kitchen area, the release said.
Officials were eventually able to locate the homeowner, who was out of the area for an appointment, Battalion Chief Al Catlett said.
Several James City County fire stations responded to the home, Catlett said.
The fire is under investigation by James City County fire marshals.
There is some minor smoke damage in the home, Catlett said.
