Firefighters battle an early morning blaze on Penniman Road

Firefighters rescued two dogs from an early morning blaze in home on Penniman Road in York County, fire officials said Tuesday.

No one else was in the house at the 1500 block on Penniman Road when crews from York County Fire and Life Safety, and mutual aid from James City County Fire Department arrived at 12;30 a.m., according to statement from York County Fire Chief Stephen P. Kopczynski.

The two dogs are safe and have been turned over to York County Animal Control, officials said. There were no other injuries.

Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the roof and all through the structure.  The fire was quickly extinguished, but there was extensive property damage and a partial structure collapse.

Crews were working Tuesday morning to conduct salvage and overhaul of property. An investigation into fire’s origin is ongoing.
