Late-night fire on Merrimac Trail displaces family of five

Firefighters responded Friday night to a residential structural fire on Merrimac Trail, displacing a family of five, officials said. 

No one was seriously injured, but one person was medically evaluated on site, according to a statement released by Williamsburg Deputy Fire Chief Larry Snyder. Relatives assisted other family members.

As many as 17 first responders and eight apparatuses from Williamsburg, James City County and York County arrived on the scene at 10:23 p.m. to 163 Merrimac Trail. They found smoke and quickly extinguished a small fire in an exterior wall near an HVAC unit.

Firefighters stayed on scene early Saturday morning conducting overhaul operations. 

The fire remains under investigation.
