Joan Elizabeth Braman, 57, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, after an admirable battle with cancer. Joan was born April 4, 1959, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Harry P. Russell and Eva E. Truett.
Joan loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. Her love impacted much more than her own children, as she was an assistant teacher at Norge Elementary School for over 15 years.
It is hard to describe someone of such grace, courage and kindness using only words. Her life was much more than words could ever describe and she has left a permanent imprint on the lives of all those who knew her, even for the shortest of times.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Eva Russell.
Joan is survived by her loyal four-legged companion, Benny; sister, Nancy Beusse; brothers, Paul (Verna) Russell and John (Brita) Russell; daughters, Charlene (Jesse Smith) Braman, Lauren (Justin) Coghill, Jennifer Rodgers, Mary Christine (Jorge) Morales and Elizabeth (Thomas) Blackwell; son, Morgan (Angela) Braman; and 11 grandchildren, Zeldyn (Valerie) Tucci, Michael Braman, Xavier Rodgers, Ahmya Tucci, Madison Braman, Noah Morales, Rachel Lee, Nikki Lee, Gabriela Morales, Ian Smith and Sawyer Coghill.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the James-City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, 3135 Forge Road, Toano.
