Joyce Pegram Wheless, 83, left her earthly home to be with her Lord Friday, March 3, 2017. Joyce was born in Star, N.C., and a Yorktown resident since 1969.
She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and a former church treasurer, member of Zion UMC Bell Choir, Steven Ministries and Church Women United. She was also a member of the Seaford Woman’s Club and the Red Hat Society.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Wheless; sister, Devera Bowman; and a brother, Amiel Pegram. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Richard and Becky Wheless of Newport News, Ronald and Sherry Wheless of Yorktown and Michael and Yvonne Wheless of Gloucester; two sisters, Barbara Thomas, and her husband, Jerry, of Rockingham, N.C., and Kate Hagler, and her husband, John, of Georgia; and five grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, Chris, Joel and Cassie.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford with the Rev. David Magruder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
