Paul William Sager, 96, formerly of LaRue, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, March 3, 2017, in Williamsburg, Va.
Paul was born in LaRue, Ohio, on Aug. 4, 1920, to Mabel (Rodgers) and Earl Sager. Paul married Betty Lou Ballinger Feb. 17, 1943, and recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
Paul was a patriotic American who served his country in World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific on the LCI 701 for the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Phillipi – Clement American Legion Post 101 and served as commander of the post as well as chaplain during his longtime membership. One of his most treasured memories was his trip to the World War II Memorial via the Honor Flight Network.

He enjoyed reading and watching birds from his comfortable screened-in porch, where he’d often pass the time putting together jigsaw puzzles or just talking with friends.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Jim and Jon (Debby) Sager; daughters, Tamyan (Scott) Gandert and Trisha Girard; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Paul is also survived by his three sisters, Ruth Deal, Mary (Gene) Kuhlwein and Margaret Ann Banning, all of Arizona.
A memorial service will be held this summer in LaRue.
