Williamsburg residents were greeted by a brief snow shower early afternoon Friday.
While Friday’s high temperature was 51 degrees, snow nevertheless fell for a few moments through the Historic Triangle.
“It’s really cold aloft and with the dry, cold air, it comes down fast enough that it doesn’t melt in that last 1,000 feet before it hits the ground,” said Larry Brown, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Wakefield Office.
Brown said the system will move east along the Peninsula and into the Chesapeake Bay by 3:30 or 4 p.m.
“It’s not going to amount to anything,” Brown said of the brief snow shower.
Brown said the forecast called for the possibility of snow showers in Gloucester County on Friday, but not Williamsburg.
