NEWPORT NEWS –Hampton Roads Academy tallied their 6th consecutive Division II state title this past weekend at the 2017 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championship for both the boys and girls team.
The Hampton Roads Academy girls team won with a total of 103 points, outscoring the second place team by 42 points.
HRA freshman, Melina Christou finished 6th overall in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.99. Junior, Bronwyn Keating also finished 6th overall in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.67 and 6th overall in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.82, setting a school record.
The boys team won with a total of 131 points outscoring the second place team by 61 points.
HRA junior, Nicholas Schoenig received all-state honors for his 3rd place finishes in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:44.57 and 100 Backstroke with a time of 52.14. HRA’s 200 Medley Relay (junior Michael Christou, senior Michael Keller, 8th grader Cooper Muench and senior Lane Slate) place 4th overall with a time of 1:42.04.
