Patricia Collins ‘Pat’ Markey, 81, of Williamsburg, Va., left us hand in hand with the Virgin Mary on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, after surviving an arduous two-year battle with a memory loss condition complicated by other highly debilitative diseases.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Fannie Pulley Collins; and father, Richard L. Collins.
Pat is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hugh Victor ‘Vic’ Markey; sons, Paul V. Markey (Kathy) and Steven L. Markey (Sonia); brother, Richard L. ‘Dickie’ Collins Jr.; sister, Catherine ‘Cathy’ Jones (Robert); grandchildren, Robert Wirts (Andrea), Julie Wirts (Wolfram) and Victoria Markey; great-grandchildren, Rick, Elizabeth and Christian; special friend, Robert Lust; and many other family members and friends.
Pat was a real estate broker for more than 30 years. She was a member of many women’s golf associations and enjoyed competitive matches and tournaments. Additionally, she volunteered her time with The Colonial Williamsburg Association.
Pat enjoyed helping others, and was a very active member of Alcoholics Anonymous; where she mentored to other A.A. members for more than 15 years. She routinely invited many troubled souls into her home. Pat was also an avid master gardener in upper York County and James City County and a competitive duplicate Bridge player who amassed masterpoints playing in many venues.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, 4968 Euclid Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462; Hospice House Support Care, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188; and Saint Bede Catholic Church 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
