A Russian ship, the Viktor Leonov, has been spotted in international waters near Norfolk, according to reports.

Around 10 a.m., the vessel was reported to have been about 75 miles northeast of Norfolk, keeping a distance of 30 miles from the shoreline.

The ship was spotted off the coast of Groton, Conn., yesterday afternoon.

In a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard Thursday morning, Petty Officer 2nd Class Nate Littlejohn said they were aware of a “Russian Federation-flagged vessel transiting international waters off the east coast of the United States,” and would continue to monitor the ship’s activity.
