Aroy Abrams, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 13, 2017. He was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Laurens County, S.C., to the late Gus and Irene Byrd Abrams.

As a young man, Aroy loved clean, sporty cars; his family; and hard work. He served briefly in the U.S. Army. Aroy relocated to Yorktown to work as an apprentice in the concrete masonry business. Later, he and his brother, Gussie, formed Abrams Brothers Concrete.

Aroy is survived by his wife, Jessie L. Abrams; and daughters, Lillian Kenner, Malinda Johnson (Wilbur), Debra Lee (James), Monica Shaw (Bruce) and Monique Palmer (Melvin). He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abrams may be viewed and the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Whiting’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 18, at Bethel Church, 1705 Todds Lane, Hampton. Interment will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 20, in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
