A 15-year-old boy was sent to the hospital with stab wounds after a confrontation at a basketball court in the Bethel Manor neighborhood, police say.
York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of St. Clair Circle Monday evening in response to a report of a stabbing, sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Dennis Ivey said.
Police located the victim at the Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, located at 3000 Coliseum Drive, Ivey said.
The victim told police he was playing basketball at a basketball court around 7 p.m. Sunday near his home when an older male called him “b—h” and wouldn’t leave him alone, Ivey said.
The victim and the older male agreed to meet the following day at 3 p.m. at the basketball court to sort out their issues, Ivey said.
The two met up Monday afternoon at the court and afterwards the older man followed the 15-year-old while he walked home to the Belmont at York Apartments.
The older man stabbed the victim multiple times in his back, causing one of the teen’s lungs to partially collapse, Ivey said.
During the altercation, a female, who the victim believed was the man’s girlfriend, kicked the teen several times.
Police believe the suspect is around 18 or 19 years old. The age of the female is unknown.
The incident is still under investigation, and no suspects have been arrested, Ivey said.
