Eleanor “Spot” Burwell Hodgson, 80, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017.
Eleanor was a native of Covington, Va. She was a former resident of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., Winston Salem, N.C., Topeka, Kansas, and a 30-year resident of St. Louis, Mo., before moving to Yorktown, Va., in 2008. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Eleanor Burwell; sister, Caroline Burwell Brown; and a brother, Edward Bouldin Burwell.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas D. “Tom” Hodgson; daughter, Caroline Smith, and her husband, Barry, of Hayes, Va.; son, David Hodgson of Virginia Beach; and granddaughters, Eden Eleanor Smith, Adeline Charlotte Smith and Barbara Caroline Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Grace Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
