Valentine’s Day can feel like an income-tax deadline: ignore it at your peril.

Fortunately for Historic Triangle residents, there are many ways to celebrate Feb. 14, with or without pink hearts, red roses and chocolate. That includes ways to treat yourself, whether you’re single or in a committed relationship.

So deep breath. Up your Valentine’s game. Here’s a rundown of gifts that sparkle, gifts that pair well with adult beverages and gifts that pamper, based on a list of recommendations from James City County.

Date Night

If you want to wow a craft-beer enthusiast or a Sinatra buff, consider Oceans & Ale, 5601 Richmond Rd.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, the restaurant will host a release party for Bitter Valentine, a seasonal craft beer from Alwerks Brewing Co. If you and yours are Rat Pack buffs, swing by on Feb. 14, when Oceans & Ale will offer a couples menu with items such as Oysters Rockefeller, filet of beef and chocolate-dipped strawberries. A Frank Sinatra tribute kicks off at 6:30 p.m. featuring “Just Dan.”

To make a reservation, call 757-253-2ALE.

If you heart a wine enthusiast or a locavore or both, consider the Williamsburg Winery. It’s offering a four-course tasting menu from Feb. 11-14 for $85 per person, not including tax and tip. The options include butternut squash soup, lamb tartar, pan-roasted duck breast and dark chocolate coconut pudding. Wine-pairing costs an extra $30.

For reservations, call 757-941-0317.

If bubbly is part of your Valentine’s vision, try La Tienda, 1325 Jamestown Rd. They’ll have dessert specials and champagne on the Feb. 14 menu. Call 757-253-1925 for more information or reservations.

Finally, for sugar and sweets, there’s Carrot Tree Kitchens, 1303 Jamestown Rd. They’ll have a Valentine’s dinner from 5-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. Call 757-229-0957 to learn more or book a spot.

Self-care

If dinner and cocktails don’t leave your Valentine swooning, maybe tack on some rest and relaxation. Here are a few possibilities:

  • Massage Envy Spa, 5107 Main St., has treatments including massage and facials.
  • Serenity Spa, 1781 Jamestown Rd., has massages, pampering packages and three kinds of couples massages.
  • Williamsburg Salt Spa, 1111 Old Colony Ln., offers salt-therapy sessions, float tanks and massages.

Say it with flowers

Try Morrison’s Flowers & Gifts, 1303 Jamestown Rd, which has an online ordering option, or Seasons of Williamsburg, 1308 Jamestown Rd. If your Valentine’s idea of sweet means fruit, consider Edible Arrangements, 4655 Monticello Ave.

To make someone happy with wine, craft beer or cigars, stop by The Wine Seller, 4680 Monticello Ave.

And for straight-up bling, there’s Goodman & Sons Jewelers, 4640 Monticello Ave., or Laney’s Diamonds and Jewelry, 5121 Center St.
