Williamsburg Boat Club has grown from 13 rowers to 65 high school rowers in two short years!! In addition, a middle school program was added this year! This Crew team is truly a community sport as rowers come from ALL public high schools (Jamestown, Lafayette, Bruton, Warhill, York) and all the private schools (Walsingham, Covenant Christian, Providence Classical, etc) plus home school students.
The Williamsburg Boat Club and the sport of rowing provide our youth extraordinary physical conditioning, mental discipline, leadership skills and the art of teamwork. The traits that are nurtured and developed in this sport are: courage, confidence, character, commitment to self and others, and essential communication skills. All of these skills bring our youth outside into nature, on the water, interacting with each other rather than with technology. Rowing and the Williamsburg Boat Club provides a healthy balance for Williamsburg teens.
Last spring this young team went to the USRowing Junior Mid-Atlantic Championships in Princeton, N.J. where one Men’s Novice and one Women’s Novice boat advanced to the finals!! This fall our club won the Head of the Lafayette and placed in every other regatta we competed in!
This extraordinary growth requires more equipment immediately and we need your help to allow more of our Williamsburg students on the water, learning excellent communication, teamwork and leadership skills through this amazing sport of rowing! We are in immediate need of a large boat trailer and have found one on the used market! This will allow the club to bring all the boats and equipment needed to regattas safely. Currently, rowers are limited in what they can race because of the number and size of the boats we are able to bring.
Williamsburg Boat Club is a non profit 501 (c) (3) and your donation is tax deductible!
Thank you for your help and please spread the word!
