hra humphrey vmiNEWPORT NEWS – Hampton Roads Academy senior Devone Humphrey has signed his letter of intent to play football for the Virginia Military Institute.

Devone came to HRA in 2014 where he immediately made his mark in athletics as a three sport athlete. Humphrey has been a valuable contributor to the Hampton Roads Academy football, basketball and track teams the past three years, and has received multiple awards in all three sports. In his first two years on the football team Humphrey was named to the 2nd team Wide Receiver All-VISAA, Honorable Mention Running Back All-TCIS and received the HRA Linebacker Award in 2014, and named to the 2nd Team Running Back All-VISAA, 2nd Team Running Back All-TCIS and received the HRA Running Back Award in 2015. In 2016, he was named the captain of the HRA football team and was named to the 2nd Team Defensive Back All-VISAA, 1st Team Defensive Back All-TCIS and received the HRA Defensive Back Award.

His success in sports easily coincides with his character as a student. This year’s Head Football Coach Bryce Kiser said, “As a student athlete Devone is an extremely well-rounded and fine young man.” Kiser went on to say, “He played a little bit of everything for us. A quiet leader but always willing to do what is needed and right. He is willing to sacrifice his own personal needs in order to help the team.” Other coaches and teachers echo his sentiments and speak about the powerful example Devone sets among his classmates and teammates.

The community of Hampton Roads Academy is proud to call Devone a Navigator and congratulates him on his accomplishments thus far. We wish him the best of luck this season and look forward to watching him at VMI in 2017.
