Jerry Lee Worstell, 84, entered into eternal life on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.
He had a strong faith in God and was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. Jerry was born Aug. 9, 1932 at home in Sumerco, WV . He was a proud West Virginian. He married Anne Hart in July 1955 and was happily married until she passed in September 2008. Jerry’s parents were the late Dorsey and Ethel Worstell. Jerry attended Marshall College where he was a starting pitcher for the baseball team. He graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and from Indiana State University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
At an early age he was in the U.S. Naval Reserves, of which he was very proud. He worked in the plastics industry his entire career, employed by Union Carbide, Texaco, The Ethyl Corporation, and Edison Plastics Company, where he retired in 1997 at age 65. He retired on a Friday and showed up the following Monday morning ready to go to work at Pyramid Roofing Company, where he was an original founding member (1986) and silent partner. He didn’t know much about the roofing business, but he rolled up his sleeves and dug in. At 84 years of age, Jerry still showed up for work every single day. He was responsible for the daily bank deposits, chatting with the folks in the office, and keeping everyone in good spirits.
Jerry loved golf and thoroughly enjoyed going to Sunset Beach, N.C. for many memorable annual family vacations. He loved his family and friends and often helped them personally and financially. He was a very generous person, a steadfast father and friend, and will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his three children: Connie Waters, husband Mike and their children Stuart, Lee, and Eliza of Doylestown, Pa.; Dan Worstell, wife Tammy and their sons Derek and Drew; Dave Worstell and wife Deborah all from Williamsburg; and brother Mick Worstell of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
