Barbara H. Johnson, 89, found her niche in gourmet cooking

Barbara H. Johnson, 89, of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017.

She was a lifetime Army wife, loved nursing, which she did until her retirement, and enjoyed playing golf with many friends and her husband. Barbara was an avid reader, quilter and cross-stitcher, who found her niche in gourmet cooking. She was always sharp as a tack.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 69 years, George M. Johnson; sons, George M. Johnson Jr., and his wife, Sandy Miller, Geoffrey M. Johnson, and his wife, Deborah, and James W. Johnson; grandchildren, Jesse Johnson (Whitney), Jeremy Johnson (Jaime), Alicia Manceau (Matt), Jorel McCoy (Kristie), Matt McCoy, Gabriel Johnson (Raquel), Megan Banning (Andrew), Rebecca Brown (Aaron), Katherine Oxford (Brian), Jessica Gohlke (Steve) and Hunter Johnson; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Hickory Neck Church, 8300 Richmond Road, Toano. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
