Update 12:20 p.m.: According to Lee Ann Hartmann, spokesperson for the City of Williamsburg, Chazmin Crew was found safe. According to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department, the 11-year-old was found in the area of Jamestown Road and Walnut Hills Drive, about two miles from Berkeley Middle School, where she went missing.
Police received information about her location from a citizen who saw someone fitting the child’s description. First responders went to the area and found her safe, with no reported injuries. According to Riley, police are still following up their investigation into the incident and the child was being reunited with her family at 12:30 p.m.
The Williamsburg Police Department is asking the public to assist them in locating an 11-year-old girl who went missing Tuesday morning.
According to a city news release, Chazmin Crew, 4 feet 10 inches in height and weighing approximately 90 pounds, was last seen leaving Berkeley Middle School heading into an adjacent wooded area around 8:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Chazmin was wearing tall black boots, gray fitted pants with writing on them, a brown coat with fur on the hood and a floppy leather backpack, the release stated.
According to the release, authorities believe the child may be trying to get to Petersburg via Route 5, where she has family.
At this time, Williamsburg Police and Fire, Virginia State Police K-9, Hampton K-9 and York County are assisting in the search, the release stated.
