Eltes Howard Bradshaw, 95, passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. Eltes was a native of Union County, N.C., and was a Peninsula resident for 63 years.
The youngest of 13 children, she was raised on a large farm that had no running water or electricity. She was a woman of great faith and a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1955, where she was active with the nursery, the four-year-old class, substituted for the Jr. boys class in the absence of their teacher, Fidelis Sunday School Class and the W.M.U. Elsie Carpenter women’s group. She also worked in the church kitchen after the church started holding Wednesday evening dinners. She was employed as a cafeteria manager with the York County School Division for 25 years.
Eltes was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, George M. Bradshaw.
She is survived by her son, David S. Bradshaw, and his wife, Pat, of Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Elaine B. Hemphill, and her husband, Phil, of Southport, N.C., Bonnie B. Blythe, and her husband, Mike, of Smithfield, Va.; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Echols officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, and at a reception in the church fellowship hall following interment in Peninsula Memorial Park.
