Williamsburg Area Bicyclists (WAB) gathered at Colonial Heritage Club to celebrate the bike club’s 19th birthday on Tuesday, January 10th, at their first monthly General Membership Meeting of 2017.

WAB members enjoyed dinner, participated in a raffle with various bike-related prizes, and honored exceptional members from 2016.

Ted Moreland was named Ride Leader of the Year for coaching an enthusiastic 15 year old boy who came to the club in hopes of learning how to be a better rider, Gary Smith was honored as Volunteer of the Year, Fran Wenburt was Most Improved Rider, Jim Day, Paul Stuek, and Terry Walker for completing their first Century (100 miles) rides, and Wayne Hay for having ridden the most miles of any member: 5,646. A very close second was claimed by Kitty Preston for 5,346 miles.

Their efforts, combined with the rest of the club members reporting mileage, totaled nearly 100,000 miles- or as Vice President Jim Gullo pointed out- nearly four times around Earth!
