NEWPORT NEWS –Hampton Roads Academy announced that Ron DeChirico will be the new head coach for the 2017 football season.

DeChirico first arrived at HRA in 2008 as the Director of Finance and Operations and immediately began coaching under then coach, Tom York. Over the past nine years, DeChirico has spent his time as the Defensive Coordinator, Line Coach, and Assistant Head Coach.

DeChirico has been around football majority of his life starting his career as early as middle school. Since then, he has gone on to play in high school, and in college at Holy Cross where he received various awards including a scholarship.

At Holy Cross, he started at Defensive End and played alongside Heisman Trophy runner-up Gordie Lockbaum. He also played semi-professional football in Philadelphia for seven seasons and won one championship with the team.

Bryce Kiser will hand off the head coach role to DeChirico after nine years with HRA. Kiser arrived in 2008 where he joined the staff as a Spanish teacher and assistant coach for two seasons. In 2011 he took the leadership role as Head Coach.

Dechirico has coached many sports in his lifetime but this will be his first stint as a head football coach. Along with his assistant coach role for the football team, he has also been the assistant coach for the Varsity lacrosse team since 2010.
