After establishing himself as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Virginia High School League (VHSL) history, record-setting standout Shon Mitchell (Oscar Smith H.S) has signed a financial aid agreement with William & Mary and will join the Tribe football program beginning with the 2017 spring semester.
A four-year starter for head coaches Richard Morgan and Bill Dee at Oscar Smith, Mitchell posted a 52-6 mark en route to becoming the VHSL all-time leader for career passing yards (11,380), touchdown passes (123) and completions (747).
Mitchell, a two-time first-team all-state selection, was honored as the 2016 All-State Offensive Player of the Year after passing for 3,228 yards. Additionally, his 232 completions as a senior ranks tied for the ninth-best single-season total in VHSL history.
The impressive senior campaign also helped him garner second-team All-USA Virginia Football Team distinction, while he was chosen as the 2016 All-Region and All-Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
A three-time All-Region selection (2014-16), Mitchell also earned All-Tidewater and All-Conference accolades all four years.
Mitchell was also tabbed as a MaxPreps First-Team Preseason All-American in 2014.
