A juvenile has been charged with assaulting two police officers after attempting to drive away in a squad car, Williamsburg police say.

On Jan. 12 at roughly 6:55 p.m., police responded to a reported domestic assault at a hotel in the 1500 block of Richmond Road, according to Maj. Greg Riley. The victim said her juvenile son had become upset while she was driving. He struck her and grabbed the steering wheel.

The victim pulled over in a parking lot along Richmond Road. The juvenile left the car, found a chair and tried to hit her with it.

While the officers were investigating, the juvenile got into one of the police cars and tried to drive away. The officers pulled him out of the vehicle. While they attempted to take him into custody, he assaulted both officers.

Neither officer was injured.

Petitions were obtained charging the juvenile with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, once count of domestic assault and attempted grand larceny.

He was held at the Merrimac Detention Center.
