George Alvin Foster Jr., departed this life Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, in the comfort of his home. He was born on April 30, 1935, the oldest son of the late Mary C. and Elder George A. Foster Sr.
He was educated in the Gloucester County School System. Bubba, as he was so affectionately called by his family, held numerous jobs throughout his life.
He married the late Estelle B. (Smith) Foster. Unto that union, they were blessed with six children.
George moved to Williamsburg with his daughter, Lisa, when his health began to fail. There, he enjoyed the attention he received from all of his children. He especially loved being able to spend time with his grandkids and great-grandkids who called him Popí. They would keep him busy playing games and laughing all day.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his two sons, George A. Foster III and Brian Foster (Angela); nine daughters, Nancy Teel, Veronica Washington (Kernell), Lisa Foster, Shawn Ross (Kevin), Paulette Carter, Millicent Casiano (Pedro), Mona Johnson, Jaqueline Brown and Michelle Washington (Keith); 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; four brothers, C. Welford, William, J. Herman and Larry; sister, Margaret; two sisters-in-law, Mary Montigue and Mattie Holmes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Yorktown. Mr. Foster may be viewed in the church from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
