Cancellations in the Historic Triangle due to winter storm

As the Historic Triangle handles this winter’s first major snowstorm, some county facilities and local businesses are closing due to the inclement weather.

WYDaily will continue to update this running list with the latest closures in James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg.

Williamsburg:

  • Due to continued icy roads and parking lots, WJCC Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, January 11, 2017. 12-month employees should report two hours late.
  • All Williamsburg/James City County Courts will be closed on Tuesday. This includes Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court.
  • Quarterpath Recreation Center will be closing at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. All programs, including Adult and Youth Basketball have been cancelled.
  • Williamsburg Montessori School will open at 9:30am for all programs on January 11. 
  • WJCC Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. 
  • The Williamsburg Regional Library facilities will open at noon Tuesday.
  • Due to snow and ice, William & Mary will be closed on Tuesday. All events and classes are cancelled.
  • Williamsburg City offices will be closed Monday. 
  • Quarterpath Recreation Center and Waller Mill Park are both closed on Monday. 
  • All Williamsburg Regional Library facilities will be closed on Monday.
  • WJCC Public Schools will be closed Monday.
  • The Williamsburg Montessori School will be closed Monday and Tuesday. 
  • All Williamsburg-James City County Courts are closed Monday, Jan. 9. This includes circuit court, general district and juvenile and domestic relations district court.
  • City trash collection will be delayed one day. Monday collection will be picked up Tuesday. Tuesday collection will be picked up on Wednesday.
  • Due to the impact of the weekend’s winter storm, William & Mary will be closed on Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Both Chesapeake Bank and Chesapeake Wealth Management will have 10 a.m. openings on Monday. 
  • The United Way of Greater Williamsburg Administration and Community Resource Center will be closed on Monday.
  • The Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority has cancelled curbside recycling in JCC, York, Poquoson and Williamsburg for two days. They will start collection on Wednesday and complete it on Sunday.
  • The Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra’s Dewey Decibel concert, ‘Eclectic Mix,’ originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m. has been postponed. The new date will be announced as soon as possible. If you have already purchased a ticket, please keep it until the new date is announced. It will be valid at the rescheduled event.   • The Tribe men’s basketball game with Drexel, originally slated for Saturday at 4 p.m., and the women’s basketball contest against Hofstra, scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m., have been postponed and will be made up at later dates.
  • The Tribe swimming meet with Old Dominion scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. is postponed. For information about rescheduled contests and to get the latest on Tribe Athletics, stay tuned to TribeAthletics.com and all Tribe social media for up-to-date information.
  • Colonial Williamsburg’s Millenium Golf Classic at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, originally scheduled for Jan. 7 at 10 a.m., has been rescheduled to Jan. 21 and 22. 

York County:

  • York County offices will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. 
  • York County courts will be closed on Tuesday.
  • Due to inclement weather, all York County School Division special meetings scheduled for Jan. 9 are postponed until a later date.
  • All York County School Division schools and offices will be closed Wednesday. 12-month staff are to report on a two-hour delay.
  • The York County School Division is closed Tuesday for students and staff. Essential personnel will be notified by supervisors regarding work schedules. All practices/activities scheduled for Monday and Tuesday have been postponed, including the monthly School Board work session.
  • York County offices and courts will be closed Monday. 
  • Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will be closed Monday. 
  • Garbage and recycling collections have been adjusted because of this weekend’s winter storm.  The following changes apply: -Household garbage collections will be delayed one day and will begin Tuesday and end Saturday.  For example, regular Monday customers will have their garbage collected Tuesday; regular Tuesday customers will have their garbage collected Wednesday, etc.
    – Recycling collections will be delayed two days and will begin Wednesday and end Sunday.  For example, regular Monday customers will have their recycling collected Wednesday; Tuesday customers will have their recycling collected Thursday, etc.
  • The Transfer Station will be open Monday at 8:00 a.m. and will following its regular operating schedule.  Commercial garbage collection will follow its regular schedule, but will begin at 7 a.m.
  • All Parks, Recreation and Tourism programming and athletics are cancelled Monday and Tuesday, including Youth Basketball and Instructional Classes. Gated park sites will be closed, to include: the McReynolds Athletic Complex (MAC); Chisman Creek Park; Wolf Trap Park; the Yorktown Beach Picnic Area; and, New Quarter Park. County maintained and PRT scheduled athletic fields located at parks sites, elementary and middle schools will be closed. PRT scheduled Gym rentals at elementary and middle school sites are cancelled.
  • The Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority has cancelled curbside recycling in JCC, York, Poquoson and Williamsburg for two days. They will start collection on Wednesday and complete it on Sunday.
  • Both branches our of public library (Tabb and Yorktown) will be closed Monday.

James City County:

  • REC Connect Before & After School and all county boat ramps will remain closed Tuesday.

  • County facilities and operations will be closed Monday. This includes the JCC Recreation Center and the Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, parks, REC Connect Before & After School and all convenience centers. 
  • All W-JCC Courts are also closed Monday, including Circuit, General District and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts.
  • All Williamsburg Regional Library facilities will be closed on Monday.
  • WJCC Public Schools will be closed Monday.
  • Curbside recycling (Blue Week) will be delayed two days. Collections start Wednesday and will be completed by Sunday.
  • JCC GIRLS BASKETBALL UPDATE: JV/ Varsity home game vs Heritage on 1/9 is canceled due to weather. Makeup date is TBD.
