A 45-year-old James City County man was arrested Jan. 2 after police say he was driving under the influence with seven other passengers in a minivan.
Brian Dihn Ngo is charged with driving under the influence-second offense, reckless driving and child neglect, according to James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.
Police officers stopped the white minivan, allegedly driven by Ngo, on Route 199 near Brookwood Drive around 12:15 a.m., after seeing the van speeding 78 mph in a 45 mph zone, Williams said.
As the officer approached the vehicle, he found the driver getting out of the driver’s seat and attempting to lay down in the back of the van, while a female passenger moved into the driver’s seat.
The officer requested Ngo exit the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, police found that one of the passengers was a 14-year-old female. The girl is a relative of Ngo, Williams confirmed.
Ngo is scheduled to appear in the Williamsburg-James City County General District Court March 23 for a hearing on the reckless driving and driving under the influence charges. He will appear in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for the child neglect charge. Case information is not available online for cases involving juveniles.
