Vance W. Hedgepeth, 94, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. He was a native of North Carolina and had been a Peninsula resident for 65 years.
He was an active member of Seaford Christian Church. He served as an elder, and on the Board of Trustees, Building and Grounds Committee and Missions Committee. Vance, along with his wife and four other families, started the Christian Church in Seaford. He helped to put up the church building through labor and special offerings.
He retired from NASA Langley Research Center in 1976 after 33 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Nedra Mae Hedgepeth; daughter, Rhonda Upchurch, and her husband, Edward; two grandchildren, Stefanie Upchurch and Michael Upchurch; sister, April Kornegay of Peterstown, W.Va.; and brother, Donald Hedgepeth of Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Amory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Josh Purdy officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
