NWS issues winter storm watch for Historic Triangle

Residents of the Historic Triangle should expect at least three inches of snow this weekend, according to a winter storm alert. 

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather alert Thursday morning stating that a winter storm will impact southeastern Virginia this weekend. The storm watch will be in effect for Friday night through Saturday evening.

The alert states there may be hazardous levels of snow and sleet.  Temperatures may plunge into the upper 20s and three inches or more of snow is expected.  In a “worst case scenario,” as much as six inches of snow may accumulate across the region, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Orrock.

According to the alert, snowfall is expected to begin between 7 p.m. and midnight Friday before ending late Saturday afternoon.  Hazardous travel conditions are expected.
