“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4 7:8

Robert Ellis Styles was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Gurley, Ala., one of nine children born to Simeon Dawson and Leda Isom Styles. He died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017.

Mr. Styles served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired as a supervisor in the commissary at Fort Eustis, Va.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 62 years, Maudine Taylor Styles.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Styles of Virginia Beach, Va.; and nieces and nephews from Alabama. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church of Williamsburg where he was an active participant in all areas of serving others for 50 years. He truly loved his church and community. He had many friends during his lifetime, and he did not know a stranger.

I would like to thank Mrs. Rebecca Warren, Robert and Tewathaw Reviea, and the staff at Morningside of Williamsburg for their loving care during his extended illness. I also appreciate the prayers and support from his church family during this time.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Grace Baptist Church of Williamsburg, where a celebration of his life will begin at noon. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.
