A couple was arrested and released on a summons Thursday night after firing a 9mm Glock handgun into a pile of dirt outside their Williamsburg apartment, police say.

According to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department, 31-year-old Daniel Todd Gular and 29-year-old Rachel Rea Burks of Williamsburg are facing charges of violating a city code and discharging a firearm in city limits after deputies responded to a shots fired call in the area of Battery Boulevard around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Riley said that the call came from a Williamsburg apartment complex in the vicinity of where the shots were fired. Upon arrival at the complex, officers spoke to the caller, who told police he saw two people shooting in a field just outside the building.

The man then directed police to the apartment that the couple walked into after firing the gun. Officers went to the apartment, where Gular and Burks told police they had used a handgun to shoot at a pile of dirt.

According to Riley, no other reason for firing the gun was provided, “except that they were shooting small objects in the dirt pile.”

No one was injured during the incident.
