Police: Pedestrian killed after being struck by vehicle near Hampton Highway

Update 6 a.m. Dec. 23: The Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on Hampton Highway at Long Green Boulevard in York County Thursday afternoon.
Rachel Marie Coats, 21, of Yorktown, was killed after running into the path of a 2010 Ford Econoline van that was traveling northbound on Hampton Highway, according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police. 
“A female pedestrian…ran into the path of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike the pedestrian,” Anaya wrote in a release. 
The driver of the van is not facing any charges, the release stated. Alcohol nor speed were factors in the accident.

The Virginia State Police are investigating a vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality on Hampton Highway at Long Green Boulevard in York County Thursday.

According to a VSP news release, police were dispatched to the accident at approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers were on scene and investigating the crash at 7 p.m. Thursday. The right northbound lane of Hampton Highway was blocked during the investigation.
