Williamsburg Police carWilliamsburg Police have charged a 49-year-old man with disorderly conduct and assault after arguing with a hotel security guard and threatening him with a “large wooden stick,” police said.

Police were called to a hotel in the 600 block of York Street Dec. 13 for a fight that had just occurred but was no longer active, Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.

When they arrived, police spoke to a hotel security officer who said he had seen a man on the property that had previously been banned, Riley said. The security officer identified the man as Carl Dane Carter, of York County.

When the security officer approached Carter about trespassing on the grounds, Carter began arguing with him, Riley said.

Carter also threatened the security officer with a “a large wooden stick” he was carrying, Riley said.

Riley said the police report did not state what type of stick it was or what it was used for.

On Dec. 18, the investigating officer obtained warrants charging Carter with disorderly conduct and assault. Carter had not yet been arrested, Riley said around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
