Lifelong Peninsula resident, Mamie Lou Wade Belvin, 93, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, in Yorktown.
She was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed gardening and watching people pass by as she sat on her porch swing in Dandy. She knew almost everyone who passed by her home.
Her grandchildren remember fondly picking flowers and strawberries with her and sitting down with her to draw something for them. She and her husband loved to travel, even if they were just day-trip drives. Most enjoyable times were spent taking their camper to the mountains or down to Manteo, N.C.
Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Tony” Belvin Sr.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Fox; daughter, Nancy Shields (Donnie); son, Herbert Belvin Jr. (Jean); granddaughters, Tamberly King (Jeff), Kelly Hartfelder (Jack) and Teresa LaNeave (Chris); and eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Amory Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, in Peninsula Memorial Park with Pastor James Riggins officiating.
A special thank you to the staff of York Convalescent Center for helping us care for Mamie for the past eight years.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to CHKD, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.
