Troy M. Krotz, 46, was born March 27, 1970, in Waukegan, Ill., to Randolph (deceased) and Judith Krotz.
He was a graduate of the Class of 1988 at Mundelein High School, Mundelein Ill. Troy joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves July 20, 1987. Troy served as an air support operations operator and advanced to the rank of sergeant. He participated in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He separated from the Reserves July 9, 1995.
The pride of his life, Joshua Michael, was born on August 12, 1990. His marriage to the love of his life, Aileen, occurred on July 4, 1993. And the darling of his heart, Heather Anne, was born on Feb. 9, 1998.
Troy joined the U.S. Coast Guard March 12, 1996. He served on board Cutters: USCGC Roanoke Island, USCGC Marcus Hannah, USCGC Northland, USCGC Tampa and USCGC Katherine Walker. Additional units include: STA ST. Ignace, GRU Hampton Roads, ANT South Portland, SEC New York. Troy began his Coast Guard career as a quartermaster and later merged ratings becoming a knuckle dragging boatswain mate. He attained the rank of chief boatswain mate Oct. 1 2006. He was a graduate of the Chiefs Petty Officer Academy, Class 151. He completed CCTI Jan. 12, 2007, and continued as a valued member of the Chiefs Mess for over 10 years. His accomplishments are too numerous to mention, but there was always a long-winded story behind each one.
Troy’s hobbies included golf, hockey, cycling, motorcycle racing, rugby and photography.
Troy is survived by his loving wife, Aileen; son, Joshua; daughter, Heather; and mother, Judith.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at Nelsen Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m.
