Two elderly residents of York County were rescued from their home Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out in the Queens Lake Subdivision.
According to a news release from York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, units from York, Williamsburg and James City County fire departments responded to structure fire in the 100 block of Little John Road around 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, units initially found heavy smoke coming from eaves of the roof of the residence.
Shortly prior to the arrival of fire and rescue units, a York County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene and assisted the two elderly occupants from the residence.
According to Stephen Kopczynski, director of York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, the fire was extinguished quickly.
“It didn’t take long,” he said. “They got in and they got the fire stopped pretty quick.”
He said pets were in the residence, but were evacuated from the home.
According to Kopczynski, the fire was contained to one second-floor bedroom, where there was significant damage. There was also smoke and heat damage to other areas of the residence.
Medics evaluated the occupants, but they did not require hospitalization, the release stated. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
