Police: Final suspect arrested in armed robbery at Rt. 17 Wendy’s

Police have arrested Edwin Eliaba, 19, of Newport News in connection with an armed robbery of a York County Wendy’s back in July.

According to a news release from the York-Poquoson’s Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested Eliaba Friday for his alleged role in the robbery that occurred on July 24 at a Wendy’s located in the 4300 block of Route 17.

“People need to realize that when they commit robberies in York County, we will catch them,” YPSO’s Sheriff Diggs said in the release. 

Eliaba is charged with two counts of robbery, one count of abduction, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, the release stated.

According to the release, Eliaba is the third and final suspected arrested for the crime. Deputies caught the other two suspects the same night of the robbery after stopping the getaway vehicle.

The two men arrested the night of the robbery were 18-year-old Shannon Jerrod Martin, Jr. and a 17-year-old juvenile, both of Newport News.

The other two suspects were also charged with two counts of robbery, one count of abduction, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count of conspiracy to commit a felony.

Eliaba is scheduled to appear at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday in York General District Court. Martin is scheduled to appear at York-Poquoson Circuit Court on Feb. 23.
