Williamsburg Police are searching for a man who they believe cut a man’s face with a box cutter Sunday afternoon.

Williamsburg police officers and the fire department responded to the McDonald’s in the 1600 block of Richmond Road around 3:15 p.m. after receiving a call about an assault with injuries, Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.

When police arrived, the victim said he was talking to a man outside the McDonald’s when the man pulled out a box cutter and sliced his face several times, Riley said.

The suspect fled the area in an unknown direction after the assault, police said.

The victim described the assailant as a black man about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds, but did not provide any information about the man’s clothing or other identifying traits.

“We are not sure of the relationship between the victim and his attacker,” Riley said, adding that the men do know each other.

Medics provided assistance to the victim at the scene. The victim refused further medical treatment.

The incident is being considered an isolated event, and is currently under investigation, Riley said.
