Police have located and arrested Coleston Ryan Lewis, 26, of Newport News, who is believed to have shot and killed a private security guard in York County on Thanksgiving morning.

According to a news release from the York-Poquoson’s Sheriff’s Office, authorities received information around 10 p.m. Tuesday that Lewis was at a residence in Newport News.

After coordinating with the Newport News Police, Lewis was safely arrested, without incident at approximately 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, the release stated.

“We appreciate the assistance of the Newport News Police and every other agency that had been helping us look for the suspect,” the YPSO wrote in the release. “We also appreciate the many tips provided by the citizens. Sheriff Diggs would especially like to thank the men and women of his office for the many hours they put in while working this case. We continue to pray for the victim’s family and friends.”

Police believe Lewis shot and killed security guard Richard “Bird” Irvin around 2 a.m. Thursday, while being escorted out of a tent party in the County Grill & Steakhouse parking lot, located in the 1200 block of George Washington Memorial Highway.

Lewis is charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
