Arleen Clayton was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, surrounded with family at her bedside. Her life began on June 23, 1956, the daughter of Georgia Braxton and the late Jerry Hamilton.
Arleen attended Lafayette High School. She worked as a CNA at Eastern State Hospital until her health began to decline. Arleen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She loved to sew and draw with colors. She touched the hearts of everybody she came in contact with. To know her was to love her.
She was also preceded in death by her nephews, Dion Brown and Jerry Jackson; and her niece, Rhonda Lassiter.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her mother, Georgia Braxton; her daughter, Toyka Canady; her adopted son, Antonio Clayton; her grandchildren, KaJoun, Kayla and Kyle Johnson, all of Williamsburg; her brothers, Bobby Brown and Jerry Hamilton Sr. (Hester), all of Williamsburg, Charles Brown (Ann) of Mathews and Clarence Hamilton (Katrelle) of Middlesex; her sisters, Geraldine Payne (Charles) and Sanetta Wallace (John), all of Williamsburg; her aunt, Evelyn Brown; her special friend, Warren Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Whiting’s Chapel, with the Rev. Morris Randall officiating. Family and friends will assemble by 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
