Update 5:09 p.m.: At 5:01 p.m., thunderstorms with heavy rain were located along a line extending from Busch Gardens to six miles west of Smithfield, according to the National Weather Service. 

The National Weather Service in Wakefield issued an alert about thunderstorms for parts of the Historic Triangle Wednesday.

A line of thunderstorms with heavy rain will hit northern James City and northwestern York counties, as well as Williamsburg, the agency said in a special weather statement issued at 4:13 p.m. The storms stretched from near Little Plymouth to near New Kent and were heading east at 15 m.p.h.

Wind gusts of higher than 30 m.p.h. are possible, along with pea-size hail and brief periods of heavy rain.
