Willie C. Mitchell, 91, loved sharing his jokes and detailed stories

Willie C. Mitchell, born August 8, 1925, to the late Leon Mitchell and Alberta Hill, in Florida, departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, in the Consulate Healthcare of Williamsburg.

At an early age, Willie served his country in the United States Armed Forces. He later moved to Virginia and was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Lillie Mae White Mitchell.

He was previously employed by Sheldon Lumber Company. He retired from the Ball Metal Container Group after 19 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church, Toano, serving on the Deacons Board, until his health began to fail. Through the years, Willie never came across anyone that was a stranger and had a detailed story to share or a joke to tell.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, his daughter, Ernestine Loggins (Earl), of Newport News; his son, Willie Leon Mitchell (Peggy), of Helena, GA; his grandchildren, Leon Williams, SSG Latroya Payne, DoƱavia Vann (Major) and Deionn Loggins (Cherelle); his great-granddaughters, Gynisys and Callie; his brother, Albert, of Douglas, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and many caring friends.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, in St. John Baptist Church, 2588 Forge Road, Toano, with Reverend Reggie Berkley officiating. Interment to follow with Military Honors in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble by 11:30 a.m. at the church. Mr. Mitchell may be viewed from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
