VDOT: I-64 shut down from Camp Peary to Lightfoot

Update 2 p.m.: According to VDOT, all travel lanes are clear on I-64 eastbound and I-64 westbound, but a two-mile backup remains.

Update 1:10 p.m.: According to VDOT, I-64 westbound at Camp Peary now has one lane open to traffic, but one lane remains blocked. The detour has been removed for I-64 westbound. Also, both lanes remain blocked on I-64 eastbound at Camp Peary, but traffic is moving on the shoulder.

Update 1:05 p.m.: VDOT is reporting a detour is in place for I-64 westbound only. Traffic is moving on the shoulder for I-64 eastbound. 

All eastbound and westbound lanes on Interstate 64 are currently closed to traffic and a detour is in place.

According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Transportation, I-64 has been closed from Route 143 at Camp Peary to Route 199 at Lightfoot due to a crash.

The crash has been reported to involve multiple vehicles and injuries, according to Virginia State Police.

According to VDOT, motorists should expect a lengthy closure and expect major delays. 

The I-64 Westbound Detour is as follows:

Motorists should take Exit 238 (VA-143) Camp Peary and follow signs to I-64 westbound and re-enter at (VA-199) Lightfoot to complete the detour.

Motorists are also encouraged to visit www.511virginia.org, call 511, download Virginia’s free 511 mobile app or listen to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1680 AM or call the Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 for current traffic and travel information.
