John Paul Allmon, 76, retired Air Force translator

John Paul Allmon, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016.

Paul was born in Parsons, Kansas, and later moved to Colorado. His gift for languages led him to a career as a translator in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and several stations stateside. He retired in 1993 with over 20 years of distinguished service. Paul’s second career was with the U.S. Postal Service in Williamsburg, which he retired from in 2006. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, even when the journey became difficult and painful.

He is survived by his children, Donna Allmon of Pennsylvania, Ken Allmon, and his wife, Kelly, of Yorktown, and Mike Allmon, and his wife, Melinda, of Gloucester; brother, Jim Allmon of Colorado; sister, Terri Sullivan of Tennessee; three grandchildren, James, Caroline and Mike; and two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Ava.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow the Mass, with military honors in the church columbarium.
