Newport News – If halftime is when the coaches make adjustments, Hampton Roads Academy Coach Bryce Kiser must have made some great changes.
Although his Navigators led 15-0 at the half, Kiser’s defense allowed Broadwater just 8 yards offense, and the defense scored three times en route to a 42-0 football victory Friday night at Lester Grace Field.
Sophomore quarterback Kahleef Jimmison rushed for 125 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, and Devone Humphrey ran 14 times for 110 yards and a TD, plus a touchdown reception to open the scoring. He added the final 6-pointerby galloping 68 yards with a punt return. He also passed for two 2-point PATs.
While the Vikings were being stymied in the third quarter, The Navigators (2-7) were running the ball for 80 yards, including Humphrey’s second touchdown and Jimmison’s second and third scores.
For the game, Broadwater had just 120 yards total offense, less than HRA’s first-half total of 191 yards. Also, the winners’ Ryan Arient and Jack Teagle intercepted passes.
Despite the lopsided score, the Navigators fumbled 7 times, losing 2, on a cold Homecoming night.
