John Raymond Anderson, 88, enjoyed gardening and sharing his bounty

John Anderson of 2901 Francis Chapman, W., Williamsburg, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at home, in the company of his family. He was 88.

He was born in Richmond, Indiana on December 27, 1926, and was the last surviving son of 5 boys. He was the son of Mary and Norbert Anderson. He served in the United States Navy from 15 June 1945 to 10 October 1952 and was a World War II Veteran.

He worked at Richmond Gear Works in Richmond Ind. He was an avid gardener, the source of ample vegetables and many fond memories for those who assisted him and those who experienced its bounty. His was a life of service which exemplified selflessness and charity toward all who chanced to meet and know him. One of his favorite sayings was “Stop and Smell the Roses.”

He is survived by his current loving wife, Tina Anderson, who dedicated her very existence to ensuring that his last years on earth were as good as they could be, and without whom, his last years would have been of lesser quality and fewer in number. He is also survived by a daughter, Linda Baker and husband, David; a son, Thomas Anderson, and four grandchildren, Heather Morgan, Donald Baker and wife Jill, Bridgett , Thomas Anderson Jr., Ray Bearfield and wife Lori, Rick Bearfield and wife, Linda, and Sharyn Lewis. As well as fifteen great grandchildren, Chuck, Chris, Elizabeth, Brett, Catherine, Jessica, Derrick, Miranda, Alexis, Chase, Jordan, Ian, Kyle, Cameron, Ethan and numerous great-great grandchildren all of whom he cherished above all else. He was preceded in death by loving wives, Marjorie Anderson, Ruth Anderson and Gloria Anderson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Medi Home Health and Hospice at 530 Independence Parkway, Ste. 200, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
